Business & Economy
A Tradition of Agriculture, Hunting & Fishing
Mora’s economic activity centers around its natural resources. Logging, farming and ranching predominate. Hunting, fishing and tourism is a growing business and Mora is home to several outfitters offering hunting and fishing trips into the mountains. Mora is also home to the Mora National Fish Hatchery and Technology Center whose mission is preservation of endangered fish species, and the Mora Research Center, a New Mexico State University Research center for forest genetics and conservation.
Cultural Tourism on the Rise
Mora has had recent fame for being the first county in the nation to ban fracking, and our effort to preserve our natural resources (fresh air, fresh water and abundant soil) has suddenly garnered the nation’s attention. Now, we are poised to become a destination for cultural tourism and bolster the local creative community. Strong leadership, broadband progression, and innovation are working in sync to bring creative economy opportunities to our beautiful valley.
